Never Let Me Go is a novel written by Kazuo Ishiguro, first published in 2005. The novel follows the lives of three friends, Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy, who grew up together at a secluded English boarding school called Hailsham. As the novel progresses, the reader learns that these young people are clones, bred specifically to provide organs for donation to non-clones.
The story explores themes of mortality, individuality, and the ethics of cloning and organ donation. It is also a coming-of-age tale that reflects on the nature of human relationships and the ways in which memories shape our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
The novel has been widely praised for its subtle storytelling, richly drawn characters, and Ishiguro's unique writing style. It was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and won the National Book Critics Circle Award for fiction.
In 2010, the novel was adapted into a film directed by Mark Romanek, starring Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley, and Andrew Garfield.
